Sean R. Sullivan possesses considerable appellate and litigation experience. His appellate successes include:
- Obtaining reversal of an order that required a witness to disclose the contents of private conversations with his attorney that occurred during the course of a deposition. In a case of first impression under Pennsylvania law, the Superior Court held that conversations between a witness and his attorney that occurred during the course of a deposition were privileged.
- Obtaining reversal of an order that denied preliminary objections in the nature of a petition to compel arbitration. In a case of first impression under Pennsylvania law, the Superior Court held that the inclusion of a forum selection clause in a reinsurance agreement did not waive the parties' agreement to arbitrate.
Mr. Sullivan is an active leader in a number of professional and civic organizations. He co-chairs the Appellate Courts Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association and is the Vice-Chair of the Litigation Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Mr. Sullivan is the Vice-President of the Brehon Law Society, a professional association organized to foster the profession of law among individuals of Irish ancestry. He previously served a three-year term as a member of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Mr. Sullivan's community involvement includes his service as the President of the Board of Directors of the Center City Opera Theater in Philadelphia.
Mr. Sullivan speaks and writes frequently on legal topics. He regularly serves as a speaker and course planner for continuing legal education programs for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and other organizations. Mr. Sullivan's professional honors include being named a Lawyer on the Fast Track in 2007 by The Legal Intelligencer and being named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer® Rising Star by Thomson Reuters in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011, published annually in Philadelphia magazine.
